A couple fun winter shelving projectsNovember 27th, 2016 in member junk
I made this set of shelves using old skis as the back board. Many of the skis I had were either red, white, or blue, so I chose ones with those colors. The shleves were just basic 1xs painted white. To support the front of the shelves I used 2 vintage ski poles. It looks as though the pole runs through all the boards, but in reality I cut them individually and inserted into bottom and top holes starting up from the bottom shelf.
After it was done it looked from the side like the poles were bowing frontwards. That's because the skis are not a uniform thickness and the shelves were more forward at the thicker part of the skis. No one else noticed it, but it bugs me. I should have custom cut each shelf to allow for the ski thickness. Next time.
I included a photo of shelves I made from a toboggan. It's definitely been done before and is not an original idea, but it was quite easy and I like the look of it.
