STEP 1. Visit your local mechanic and see what is stacked up in his/her junk pile!
STEP 2. Haul home heavy gears and rotors to your friendly welder and ask, What can we make with this?
STEP 3. Use a rotor as the base. Have a rod welded to its center. Attach two small gears at varying points along the rod.
STEP 4. Pick up a lamp kit and finial from your local hardware store. Follow the instructions for assembly.
STEP 5. Add the lampshade of your choice. In this case, I wanted a drum shade, which I found at a local department store.
STEP 6. Plug it in and let it add function and ambience to any room in your home. It is used here in our entry way.
STEP 7. Have some glass rounds cut to fit atop the gears. In the entry way, we use this as a charging station for our phones.

We all know that many junkers are fans of gears of all sizes. If you are a gear-head, this industrial chic lamp is for you!

But wait! It's more than a lamp! In this post, you can see how it can also be used as a resting spot for your cell phone while it charges. Or try it in the living room with potted plants inserted into the gear centers. Place bowls into the center of the gears for serving snacks in the dining room, holding paper clips in the office, dropping your keys in the entry, etc. In the bedroom, it can hold your glasses or other bedside needs. Let the lamp serve as a spotlight for special objects you place on the gear shelves. So many ideas!!

Industrial, chic, and functional! Get into gear!

Nice work!
